Last week we went on a roadtrip through Kentucky into Tennessee. It was a lovely drive- t-shirts and sunglasses! Our first stop was a night in Cave City, Kentucky and then a drive into Mammoth Cave National Park for a tour of part of Mammoth Cave.
I was pretty excited to be there.
Inside the cave. The ceiling were so high and the passages were really wide. I've only been on a couple cave tours before and none of them were like this. The part of Mammoth Cave that we were in is a dry area so there are no stalagmites or stalactites.
On the walk out. It was a long passage.
After the tour we went for a walk in the woods and checked out a nearby spring. Then we drove to Franklin, Tennessee to see where Jordan spent the first decade of his life.
This was Jordan's home in Franklin. We actually knocked on the door and got to talk to the guy that lives there now. He's the same person that bought the house from Jordan's family almost 20 years ago. It's a cute house in a nice, quiet neighborhood.
Next, we visited his elementary school and replicated an old picture...
Jordan, 1995.
Jordan, 2013.
We also went to see the house where Jordan's grandparents used to live.
Another cute house in a quiet neighborhood.
A couple of our friends, Geoff and Liz, live in Memphis and came up to Franklin to hang out with us for a couple days. It was really nice to meet Liz for the first time and see Geoff since we hadn't seen him since our wedding last summer. This was dinner at the Mellow Mushroom, a pizza place in downtown Franklin.
In the morning we went to Shoney's, a favorite restaurant of Jordan's when we was little.
We spent some time walking around downtown Franklin as well. It's a really nice suburb of Nashville. I thought we'd spend more time actually in Nashville but we hardly did at all, mostly because there was enough to see and do in Franklin.
Before we left we also got to have breakfast with one of Jordan's friends from elementary school, Ben. They hadn't gotten to see each other in almost a decade so it was a fun reunion.
On the drive home to Columbus we spent a night in Cincinnati and found a store with an extraordinary beer selection. We were there for awhile as Jordan picked out the perfect six-pack.
And our last stop of the trip was a visit to the Creation Museum in Florence, which is a suburb just outside Cincinnati. People come from all over to visit this place. There were cars in the parking lot with license plates from almost a dozen different states.
Jordan, posing with the first of many dinosaurs we saw that day.
Me, in a replica of Noah's Ark.
They actually had a petting zoo with a zonkey (zebra + donkey) and zorse (zebra + zorse).
Both were very pretty animals. And they seemed to like their neighbor, the camel.
It was a very beautiful and strange museum.
Now Jordan and I are getting back into our normal routines. The stereotypes are true and we've both managed to gain a fair amount of weight since we got married. We're both planning to get back into running this spring if the weather ever decides to warm up. So hopefully the coming pictures will show some slimmer and healthier Parkers!
What fun times! If you ever find yourselves in Puerto Rico you should do some cave tours there. I don't even have the words for what you'll be treated to. But definitely some wide open caves. And the Bat Cave from the rebooted movies. I love the pictures of Jordan at school.
