This is the lovely tree in the courtyard of our apartment complex in Columbus. It only bloomed for about a week then all the flowers fell off.
In the beginning of May, we went to Madison to look for an apartment.
This was the rainbow that we saw on the way. I figured it was a good sign.
One of the perks of employment at Epic is that they pay for temporary housing while you're looking for a place to live. Since we're not rich or fancy people, we're pretty used to staying in relatively inexpensive hotels (think La Quinta or Microtel). Imagine our shock when we checked in and this was our room for the week...
The hotel was super modern, super fancy. Polished concrete floors (with complimentary slippers!), huge balcony, high ceilings, and lots of red, white, black, and 90 degree angles.
And there was a kitchenette that was fully stocked! We didn't cook anything but we did fill the fridge up with leftover pizza and beer. Notice the space above the cabinets... that was open and lead into the...
... craziest bathroom. The shower was amazing. There was a rainshower feature on top, six spouts that shot water out of the wall, and a removable hand-held shower head. And a giant glass door. Notice how the toilet is in it's own separate room too. Such a weird and cool bathroom.
We looked at three different apartments in Madison and applied for the one we liked best. With that done, we went back to Columbus for three more weeks to pack and enjoy the city. We went to the Columbus zoo (it was my third time!), had lots of dinners and drinks with friends, and went to a Clippers baseball game.
Finally, on May 29th, we packed up the moving truck with the help of some of our amazing friends. That night we slept on our futon mattress on the floor of an empty apartment. I think it looks like we were squatting.
The next morning we got up early, finished putting the last odds and ends into the truck and headed to Wisconsin! Next post: our new apartment!!
