By the sixth day of our trip, Jordan and I were both starting to feel a little road-weary. We had just one more night in another Airbnb before we reached Reykjavik, where we planned to spend the last part of our trip. So in the morning we packed up our apartment and headed back out on the road. Because we weren't in a rush and had the whole day for traveling, we took a short detour north into Sauðárkrókur. There was a museum there that Jordan wanted to check out, and I was just happy to spend more time exploring!

The museum we visited was 1238: The Battle of Iceland which has lots of information on medieval Icelandic history and Viking battles between clans. One of the cool things about this place was they had a virtual reality experience where you put on a VR headset along with hand controls and a vest, and you got to 'experience' being in a battle. I was kind of hesitant about it at first because I was afraid it would be overwhelming, but it was actually really fun and informative. And when you're 'in the battle', people throw rocks and spears at you and the vest would vibrate like you were actually being hit!
After visiting the museum, we also stopped at the Glaumbær Farm & Museum to check out the turf houses. I thought this place was so fascinating! The houses are built into the ground, sort of like hobbit houses, but they're actually pretty spacious and sprawling once you get inside. And the fact that this area has been farmed since around 900AD... it's like my brain can't even comprehend something that old. The houses now are preserved much as they were in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The weather was beautiful all day so of course we had to stop at few times and just enjoy walking along the water. There was a quiet harbor in Sauðárkrókur where we looked for seashells, and then we stopped again in Blönduós to check out the roaring waves and rocky beach!

I was REALLY excited about the Airbnb we had booked for that night. It was a cabin near Búðardalur, kind of in the middle of nowhere, off of Route 1 on a gravel road. But it was surrounded by mountains, and right along a stream that feed into a hot bath just outside! You can check it out here:

We got there just after check-in time so we had plenty of time to enjoy a soak (or three!) The cabin didn't have a television which was actually really nice. We found the game Rummikub on a shelf so we decided to play a couple rounds. Neither of us had played it since childhood so it was fun to revisit!

| I could get used to this. |

| That's our cabin, just steps away! |
 |
| The best. |
 |
| There was a little wooden platform next to the bath so I would alternate between soaking in the hot water and then spreading out on the platform to cool off/dry, and then head back in again! |

 |
| And back in to soak! This is 9pm! |
 |
| Definitely a trip highlight. |
The next morning we headed out for the last leg of our drive into Reykjavik! Then we planned to spend four days/three nights there before flying back home.
