Poor sick kitty.

We had some trauma in the cat house. Stella had been acting sort of strange for a few days last week. She wasn't moving around a lot and wouldn't let us pet her on the left side of her back. Jordan thought she looked a little swollen in that area and felt a couple scabs on her. He decided to make a vet appointment for Monday morning.

On Sunday morning it appeared that she was oozing pus from her back. We called the OSU Emergency vet clinic and brought her in immediately. It turned out that she had either been bitten or scratched on her back, it swelled into an abscess, and it ruptured on Sunday. She had to be sedated, shaved, the wound was flushed with saline, and they cut off the dead skin. This resulted in an open sore on her back that was covered with gauze and sewn onto the skin. It also meant that Stella would be taking antibiotics, pain meds, and wearing a cone for the next couple weeks.

Why do I look like a satellite dish? Don't care... too sleepy...

Why is there a blue package sewn onto my butt? Don't care... too sleepy...

In the last two days we've had to bring her back to the clinic twice to have the bandage changed. They need to sedate her to do this so she has pretty much spent the last 72 hours in a drug-induced haze. Poor kitty. For the most part she has been doing well, except for when the pain medication wears off and she gets agitated and angry.

WHO DID THIS TO ME?!?!? MWARRR!!

Chill out Stella, it wasn't me... maybe it was that other guy...
What? It wasn't me. I'm the good one. Now please shut the drawer.

Stella is going back to the clinic tomorrow, hopefully for the last time. They need to remove the bandage for the last time and sew up the skin. Unfortunately I'm in Cleveland for job training for most of this week so I'm not around to help Jordan with all the kitty drama. We are going to need to start over at square one with introducing our cats. This means that my cats will need to stay isolated in a bedroom while Stella is out, then we'll switch them and lock up Stella so my cats can get out into the apartment. Hopefully they'll eventually calm down and stop fighting. We really don't want to keep them separated but if they're going to hurt each other it's the best thing to do. It's a sad week in our apartment. Why can't cats just be friends?
